Songwriting
Before there was an EP, there was a songbook. Most of it has never been heard, and some of it was written for other people entirely.
Why she writes.
As for why I write… this sounds heavier than I mean it to, but songwriting is a form of therapy for me, in every sense. Every emotion finds its way into it, and often it’s only through the process of writing that I realise what I’m actually feeling. I learn something from every experience because writing makes me look at it more closely and take it back to its core.
That isn’t the case for every song, of course.. some songs are simply for fun. :)
I’m also discovering how much I love writing for other artists. It allows me to step outside my own world for a moment and put myself into someone else’s feelings. A little like watching a great film and coming away inspired by someone else’s story.
And telling stories through music is where I find my happiness.

Songs that went somewhere else.
For most of her career Jennifer wrote songs and gave the best of them away. She wrote for other artists, sang other people's words at other people's weddings, and kept her own songbook in a drawer.
One of those songs was Sailing. She wrote it for Douwe Bob, and it became the first song by an outside writer ever to appear on one of his albums. She then sang it with him every night of his 2024 tour. Hearing a room full of people sing back words she had written is the moment she points to when she explains why she stopped keeping her songs to herself.
She is writing for other artists again, and more than ever. Those songs are recorded and waiting on release plans that are not hers to announce, so they stay unnamed here for now.
Country folk pop, mostly.
Words and music, at a piano. Raised on The Eagles and Dolly Parton, and drawn to the same thing they were: a story told plainly enough that a room full of strangers can follow it the first time they hear it.
Uptempo more often than not these days. Funny where it can be. Direct where it matters.
